A SUMMER CHRISTMAS

To an Australian (Ozzie), our summer begins on the 1st December.

Before Christmas day on a warm night with the stars shining, we gather our blankets or folding chairs to sit on, and go to the local park for Carol singing. This brings the Christmas spirit to all with the only lights - being hand-held flickering candles. Often a good voice leads the singing from a stage with peace on earth and goodwill to all mankind shared in joyous harmony.

Perhaps a donkey will arrive, with a mother and babe sitting on its back and led by a man in robes. Out in the open with the milky way overhead, it gives the feeling of that special night long ago.

Christmas is often on a hot summer day. People either travel to one of the many beaches to cool off and eat a barbeque picnic, or, its a cold lunch on the covered veranda at home.

Christmas is the important tradition of celebrating the saviours birth, no matter the season or the day. No, Jesus wasn't born on the 25th December, we Christians took that day from the pagans. However, its not the date that matters - but the fact that God loved us so much, he sent his son into the world to lead us to, eternal life.
